This is the only way I'm going to read ulysses. The formatting in the files (not dev's fault) cause me some hiccups if i were going for Speediest Playthrough Ever because i have to get used to them first, but I still love this concept of typing game to the extreme (I have the non-ulysses version too.)

I mostly want to comment how funny it is that this game is now functioning as physical therapy for my shoulder 😂 Last night I slept without it popping crunchily into place, and when I tried to stretch-and-pop it when I put it under my partner's pillow, it was quiet. Even now it is no longer popping and feels better. I didn't intend for it to work that way, but I'm going to put it in my healing plans now, haha.

[Medical disclaimer!!! I am not a doctor.  If you have an injury you should consult a medical professional.
I was not majorly injured when I picked this game back up 2 years later. I am basically uninjured, and just inconvenienced by asymmetric muscle because of unconscious habits and using that arm for my computer mouse. It's just really funny this turned out this way.]

These titles would be more grammatically correct:

Type the Entirety of Ulysses

Type Ulysses in its Entirety

Type the Story of Ulysses in its Entirety

Type the Entire Book of Ulysses

Type the Entire Story of Ulysses

(+1)

Happy Bloomsday, which I never knew about until this morning.

(+2)

I don't think I ever studied Ulysses during school. I actually have no idea what it's about

(+3)(-2)

Nobody does. It's basically unreadable.

(+4)

I'm probably morally obliged to play through all of this because of not attending all the lectures on Ulysses during my first year of undergraduate and going on to become a lecturer... still never having finished reading Ulysses.

I've read it twice now, second time I listened to the Audiobook version and honestly it was a great performance. Much better than reading yourself. I never typed it all though, maybe that'll be a really good way experience it too.

I do think an unabridged audiobook version sounds like a plan, thanks! I have an abridged one I've listened to and it really helps with the lyricism. I hadn't realised that there were so many snatches of traditional Irish songs and hymnals and such!

It won't let me install, it says "can't read property of 'build' undefined" or something like that

Try reloading the game page on the app and downloading again. Apparently this is because I forgot to mark it as for Windows.

That worked, thank you

this is a great game for people who love to go click clack :) however, is there way to save progress within the text? or will it only save after you've completed a chapter? they're very long for a single sitting.

(+2)

hey, there is no in-level save. This game was mostly supposed to be a silly novelty and I didn’t seriously expect people to complete any chapters. You can go check out the game this is based on if you want some shorter passages (free to play): https://eatkin.itch.io/a-relaxing-typing-game

Found my new favorite game, no competition at all

Fun game. For the future, I was wondering when we can expect the Artamène DLC?

Hello, I just started to play this game but for some reason it refuses to register the square brackets "[" when I type them? And it's not like it just mistakes it for an other symbol since there's no mistake sound

This may be linked to the fact that I have an azerty keyboard and not qwerty? but still the other letters work fin for now so idk

(+1)

Also just noticed that when you have to type the url in "project gutenberg outro" you can't see past "/0" but there are other characters past that that you can't see but have to type lol

The square brackets thing is kinda weird, works fine on my end (UK QWERTY). I installed French language to test and same problem. Square brackets [ are alt+5 right? If you tap ctrl+E you can skip past it. Will look into it.

I'll fix the URL thing on the weekend.

Just typed up a long meandering reply about how I couldn't fix the bug then immediately fixed it 🙃 you should be able to type the square brackets now and you should be able to see the full url too!

Is there a way to make it save progress when closing the game? By my calculations, it's gonna take somewhere in the realm of 100 hours to complete, and I'd love to keep my coins.

(1 edit) (+2)

The game should auto-save when you complete a text....but I've just tested and it isn't working 🤦‍♂️ I will fix that this weekend and then drop you a comment when the update's out.

(+2)

Sorted. It was actually overwriting the save on start because I am stupid, so if you left the game with something saved it will pick it up.

Awesome! Thank you very much!

This is a cool game, is there any way to mod in new files and folders? I tried to add the Iliad in as an experiment to see if it would just drop right in, but it didn't work. I replaced limerick nine (in the other version)  with the first chapter of the Iliad, that works, but it's a little hacky.

I do like the hacky vibe of just overwriting limerick 9 each time I want to type something, but would prefer a more elegant solution. I would really like to see the little completed checkmarks as I finish typing out the book.

Are there any modding resourses, or am I missing some obvious way to add extra content to the game without just overwriting other files?

(1 edit) (+3)

I do have a version that lets you load in external .txt files I could upload if that's any good to you? It is essentially the same as just replacing the files and it won't add it to the collection of works to type out though. It's something I could potentially do but I've not really been finding the time to work on games recently so might be a while before I get round to it

(+2)

I would like to see that version, but if it's buggy it might be more trouble than it's worth in bug reports on your end.

I still really would like to see a version that supported external folders and added them to the main collection, or a mods folder. I think that would be a cool feature, and I hope you find time for something like that some time in the future.

(why does this cost money?)

This game is like VB super smooth and a little bit bitter. I would play  it everywhere if I had a computer that let me walk and play. So instead I will drink VB everywhere and think about the natural beautiful bitter game that is this. Thank you Ed for the awesome!
